Fort Payne is a small manufacturing and mountain town best known locally for its sock mills and modest country music activity. Country group Alabama was based here in the 1980s and 1990s, giving the town a real connection to mainstream country.

Music happens at local restaurants, the city park pavilion, the Fort Payne Opera House for special events, and nearby festival grounds. Church halls also host regular gospel and bluegrass gatherings.

The country band Alabama was based here and helped put the town on the Nashville-connected country map.

Play at downtown restaurants and the park pavilion, and attend events at the Opera House. Chattanooga and Birmingham are the nearest larger markets for steady work.
