Roanoke is the county seat of Randolph County in east Alabama, a rural small town with textile and manufacturing history. School marching bands, church choirs, and country and gospel traditions have long dominated local music. Atlanta and Auburn are the nearest larger cities.

Music happens at the high school auditorium, American Legion hall, church fellowship halls, and the county fairgrounds. Most performers travel to Auburn, Opelika, or the Atlanta area for regular venues.

Local and regional artists perform here, with musicians from the nearby Atlanta and Auburn scene occasionally passing through.

New musicians should join the school band program, connect with church musicians, and watch community center bulletin boards. Driving toward Auburn or Atlanta is usually necessary for open mics and paid gigs.
