Escondido, in northern San Diego County, is anchored by the California Center for the Arts, which opened in 1994 and brought classical and jazz concerts. Fogerty's Pub was the leading North County rock venue until a 2003 fire. The Street Festival and summer park concerts keep local bands visible.

The California Center for the Arts runs a concert hall and theater booking classical, jazz, and world-music acts. Bars on Grand Avenue host acoustic sets and blues combos. The Street Festival fills downtown with rock and Latin bands. For rock venues, musicians head 30 miles south to San Diego.

Liquid Blue played more shows at Fogerty's Pub than any act before it burned in 2003. Panic Duo performed at California Center for the Arts. Local bands play the Street Festival and Grand Avenue bars.
