Brandon is a suburban community east of Tampa with a family-oriented music scene. Local country and rock cover bands, church worship groups, and acoustic singer-songwriters dominate. Rapid residential growth shaped a strip-mall entertainment culture. Most serious musicians head west to Tampa.

Sports bars and local restaurants host acoustic sets and small bands on weekends. The Florida State Fairgrounds, nearby, hosts concerts during fair season. For year-round touring acts and larger clubs, residents drive into Tampa, where Ybor City and downtown venues are within 15 minutes.

Brandon has not produced nationally famous artists, but local and regional country and rock acts regularly perform at suburban Hillsborough County venues. Many Tampa-based musicians reside in Brandon.

New musicians should check open mics at restaurants and bars along State Road 60. Community festivals and farmers markets often include acoustic acts. For professional networking, the short drive into Tampa is necessary, as most venues and agents are in the metro core.
