Quincy is a coastal city south of Boston with a long history of school music programs and a small local rock and punk tradition. The Quincy Public Schools music department, established in 1888, has produced generations of musicians. Live music occurs at neighborhood bars and community events.

Neighborhood bars and pubs in the downtown and Wollaston areas host local rock bands and acoustic performers. The Quincy High School auditorium and community centers showcase student and regional ensembles. For larger concerts, residents take the Red Line into Boston.

Guitarist Rick Barton, a founding member of Dropkick Murphys and player in The Outlets, came from Quincy. The city also produced Continental, a rock band formed by Barton and his son.
