Carbondale is a small city in northeastern Pennsylvania with coal-mining heritage and a historic downtown. School bands, church choirs, and community theater provide most local music, while local bars host acoustic and classic rock acts. Scranton musicians drive northeast for casual gigs.

Performance spaces include the high school auditorium, community center, American Legion hall, a downtown park pavilion, and local bars and restaurants. Carbondale has no large dedicated venue.

Local and regional artists perform here, with musicians from the nearby Scranton scene occasionally passing through.

Start by joining the school music program, checking the community center bulletin board, and asking downtown restaurants about acoustic nights. More regular work is available in Scranton or Wilkes-Barre.
